1. Trace The Essex County Cheese Tour

The 6th Annual Essex County Cheese Tour, highlighting 3 unique cheese-making Adirondack farms, took place this past weekend. This annual self-guided event encourages visitors and locals to sample some of the local dairy community’s handcrafted artisanal creations. While the big event is over you can still trace the tour at your leisure.

Drive (or bike!) a stretch of about 26 miles from Keeseville to Upper Jay through scenic, color-changing Adirondack foothills when you check out the farm creamery stops below:

2. Culinary Weekend at Mirror Lake Inn

In partnership with postcard-perfect Mirror Lake Inn, Carriage House Cooking School welcomes visitors from near and far to the bounteous Adirondack region November 15-17 in pursuit of a memorable and delicious culinary experience!

“The Inn and I wanted to find a way to celebrate the bounty of our region with others who might not be so familiar with it, or expand someone’s existing knowledge base. The idea of combining a bundle of Adirondack themed cooking classes with a weekend package seemed like a natural thing to do.”

Chef Curtiss Hemm

Class menus for this weekend getaway feature specially selected culinary interpretations inspired by the Adirondack region’s rugged character and natural resources.

A 2-night stay at one of the region’s most renowned hotels? Two demonstration-style cooking classes with our very own Chef Curtiss? A convenient (not to mention scenic) location right in downtown Lake Placid?

4. Self-Guided Brewery Crawl  | Lake Placid to Saranac Lake

As the New York State Beer Trail attests, our state has grown into a booming beer haven.

Embark on your own mini, self-guided brewery crawl, travelling from Big Slide in Lake Placid to Blue Line in nearby Saranac Lake, tasting freshly-made local beers from the following breweries:

Big Slide Brewery & Public House  | 5686 Cascade Rd, Lake Placid, NY 12946

Award-winning (and pup-friendly) Big Slide Brewery is known for its popular “Giant IPA” and friendly, approachable atmosphere. From sours and wild-fermented beers -- made in their “funk” (A.K.A. fermentation) room -- to pale ales, porters and a barrel-aging processes involving bourbon, wine and more, folks from near and far will find plenty to explore at this stop.

Lake Placid Pub & Brewery  | 813 Mirror Lake Dr, Lake Placid, NY 12946

Listed on I Love New York’s website as one of the “12 Best New York State Brewery Experiences”, Lake Placid Pub & Brewery has been a local hot spot since 1996, providing townies and out-of-towners alike with award-winning ales and IPAs.

Great Adirondack Brewing Company  |  2442 Main St, Lake Placid, NY 12946

Upholding strong family values and traditions since 1987, this family-run business was born in Plattsburgh, NY near Lake Champlain, eventually evolving to the point of relocating to Lake Placid with space to install an impressive 7-barrel stainless-steel, custom-manufactured brewing system (take a tour)! With an ever-evolving lineup of ales and lagers, there’s a taste here for any palette.

Blue Line Brewery  |  555 Lake Flower Ave, Saranac Lake, NY 12983

Blue Line Brewery refers to the geographic boundaries surrounding the Adirondack Park and makes itself home at an old car wash in Saranac Lake, maintaining a simple goal: sell as many pizzas and pints of beer as cars washed in the building’s past life... 231,000 (be sure to ask about the current stats). Speaking of stats, Sox fans will find kindred spirits here.

Want an added kick? Try cycling from point to point for a 10-mile bike-and-brew challenge. Don’t have your own bike with you? Find convenient rentals right in downtown Lake Placid.
